Reflection on Teacher-Centered and Learner-Centered Instruction
Teacher centered and student centered instruction has always been a discussion in Turkey Education system because both of them has its own curricullum and each of them has advantages and also disadvantages. I want to explain this in my past experience during my high school. When I was in high school I had both kinds of teachers and in some lessons which is teacher centered I was very successfull and understand the whole topic. However, in some lessons I couldnt attend the lecture because I needed private interest of teacher and in this stuation teacher couldnt help me. teacher centered instruction is usefull for teachers who have nearly 30-35 student in one class because teacher dont have time to spend each student so teacher centered education is an adavntage for teacher. Secondly, learner centered education is my favorite because it is totally based on students and it aimed to develop students perfectly and successfully.

hey!! I so agree with you in terms of "whatever works". I also had some classes in which I was successful and they were teacher centered courses. I would probably support learner centered courses but it is all up to the teacher really....
YanıtlaSilhi Ali, I agree with you. Teacher centered technique was often used in high school and this technique has advantages and disadvanges for students.When I was in high school, I had teachers who used teacher centered method.

YanıtlaSilHi Ali! As you mentioned teacher doesn't always have a choice about teaching styles. It's good to be aware of pros and cons about these two different approach. Even though I support learner-centered courses, in Turkey system forces you to do exact the opposite. So good luck to us:)
YanıtlaSilDear Ali, I totally agree with you. As you've mentioned teacher-centered instruction works best in crowded classes. However in classes where student number is enough for teacher to take care of, using student centered instruction is better in terms of motivating students and drawing their attention.
